Timothée Chalamet openly shared his disappointment after missing out on the Best Actor Oscar this year. The 29-year-old actor was nominated for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown but lost to Adrien Brody, the star of The Brutalist.
This was not Chalamet’s first nomination; he was also nominated in 2017 for Call Me By Your Name but lost to Gary Oldman for Darkest Hour.
“If there’s five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing you don’t think those four people are at the restaurant like, ‘Damn, we didn’t win’?”
“I’ve been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, ‘That was fun.’ But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, ‘F***.’”
“People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever the f***. But I’m the one actually doing it here.”
Though he didn’t secure the Oscar, Timothée won the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Best Leading Actor for the same role. During his acceptance speech, he expressed his ambition, saying he wants to be “one of the greats.”
“I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much it means to me, but the truth is, this was five-and-a-half years of my life, I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr.”
Chalamet’s candidness highlights the emotional challenges actors face in competitive award seasons while underscoring his dedication and passion for his craft.
