Elizabeth Lawless Brotherton, known to many as Ann, passed away peacefully at her home in Augusta on Sunday, November 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Augusta, she left behind a lasting legacy of love, family, and community spirit.
Ann graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy alongside Richard Lenz Brotherton, whom she would later describe as
"the love of my life."She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1954.
After returning to Augusta, Ann and Richard married and together raised seven children by 1968. Their home on “The Hill” was a welcoming space for friends and neighbors, filled with music and laughter.
Music played an important role in their lives as Ann and Richard led the folk choir at their parish for several years, strengthening community bonds through song and faith.
Ann worked as an operating room manager at Talmadge Hospital, demonstrating compassion and leadership. At the age of 45, she and her family joined her brother Harry’s family in Boise, Idaho, where they co-owned a beer and wine distribution business. During this time, she served as an operating room supervisor at the Boise VA Medical Center, continuing her dedication to patient care.
After their children were grown, Ann and Richard returned to Augusta, settling once again on the corner of Bellevue and Monte Sano Avenues—the same neighborhood where her story began.
Ann Brotherton’s life reflected devotion to family, faith, and service—a nurse, mother of seven, and a cherished friend whose warmth continues to touch many hearts.
