78-year-old man accused of shooting at estranged wife in Big Bear

Authorities reported that a 78-year-old man, identified as Tamio Sakai, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly firing shots at his estranged wife outside her Big Bear residence on Monday, November 3.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to the 1100 block of Mounds Avenue shortly before 7 a.m., following reports of gunfire from a neighbor.

“A neighbor reported that a male, later identified as Tamio Sakai, was discharging a firearm outside his estranged spouse's residence,” the department stated.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that Sakai had fired several rounds toward his estranged wife but missed. Deputies detained him outside the home and found a recently fired handgun in his vehicle. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Sakai was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, according to county records. His bail was set at $1.3 million. He is scheduled to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Wednesday, November 5.
