Google has unveiled a new AI-driven feature for vehicles with Google built in, designed to make navigation safer and more precise. The live lane guidance system interprets roads and lanes much like a human driver, issuing real-time voice and visual prompts to help motorists change lanes smoothly and avoid missing exits.
The system uses artificial intelligence to analyze lane markings and road signs captured by the car’s front-facing camera. This live data integrates directly with Google Maps, which already serves over two billion users every month. The result is more accurate route guidance combined with up-to-date traffic, estimated arrival times, and hazard information.
The feature will first appear in Polestar 4 vehicles in the United States and Sweden. Google intends to partner with major automakers to expand availability across more models and different road conditions worldwide.
“The new AI feature analyses road markings and integrates with Google Maps to provide precise, dynamic navigation starting with Polestar 4 vehicles.”
