David Taylor, MP for Hemel Hempstead, recently met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to address crime and antisocial behaviour in the town following several major police operations in Hertfordshire.
During the meeting, Mr Taylor advocated for Hemel Hempstead to be selected as a pilot area for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These orders are designed to empower police with stronger authority to handle persistent offenders and nuisance behaviour.
“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
Mr Taylor highlighted the importance of collaboration between local authorities, housing associations, and police, especially following recent enforcement efforts in Hemel Hempstead.
“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together,” Mr Taylor added. “That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”
The MP praised Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and dedication in serving and protecting local residents under significant pressure.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”
David Taylor urges stronger police powers and partnership working to combat antisocial behaviour, applauding recent police efforts and seeking pilot status for new Respect Orders in Hemel Hempstead.
