Three inmates have appeared in court accused of murdering child killer Kyle Bevan, aged 33, at HMP Wakefield. The accused are Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63.
The men appeared separately before Leeds Magistrates' Court via video link from Havertop Police Station. Each was charged with one count of murder in connection with Bevan’s death on November 5.
Police were called to the prison around 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday after reports that an inmate had been found dead in his cell. The Prison Service later confirmed the deceased was Bevan.
Kyle Bevan was serving a life sentence for the 2020 killing of his partner’s two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.
During the short hearings, all three defendants wore standard grey prison clothing and were accompanied by police officers.
“You are charged with one allegation of murder. That is so serious I therefore have to send you to Leeds Crown Court. The next hearing will be a plea and trial preparation hearing. I am not able to consider bail and so you will be remanded into custody,”
stated District Judge Charlotte Holland, who directed the case to Leeds Crown Court for November 10.
