Jennifer Lawrence humorously describes acting alongside Robert Pattinson in Die My Love as a form of “revenge” after her unsuccessful audition for Twilight. In an alternate reality, Lawrence might have played Bella Swan to Pattinson’s Edward Cullen in the iconic series.
Lawrence shared on “The Rewatchables” podcast in 2023 that the studio declined her immediately and she never even received a callback for the role.
More than a decade and two major franchises later, Lawrence and Pattinson finally co-star in Mubi’s Die My Love. At the New York premiere, Lawrence told Variety:
“Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted.”
Directed by Lynne Ramsay, this film marks her first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here. It’s a gripping psychodrama where Lawrence plays a writer unraveling mentally under the strain of a turbulent marriage and motherhood.
The film features intense verbal confrontations between Lawrence and Pattinson’s characters, but off-screen their interaction was more subdued. Lawrence said:
“My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time. I really appreciate that in a coworker.”
Pattinson recalled that the first movie he saw Lawrence in was Winter’s Bone (2010), where she played a struggling teenager in the Ozarks.
Jennifer Lawrence views teaming with Robert Pattinson in Die My Love as a satisfying full circle after a past rejection, highlighting their easy off-screen rapport amid on-screen intensity.
