On Halloween night, children on St. John had no trouble filling their candy bags. The fun began at Mongoose Junction, where families took part in the festivities before heading to the Trunk-or-Treat celebration held at the gravel lot in Cruz Bay.
Parents guided their little ones down the main staircase, where they were greeted by Raven Phillips of Bajo El Sol. Phillips handed out sweets to young visitors, including Finn, dressed as Curious George, accompanied by his mother, Willow Melamet.
Before 5 p.m., early visitors received free books from the Little Free Library. Jeannie Bishop distributed the books while Phillips encouraged young readers. One small fisherman couldn’t resist the lure of the book table, while artist Janet Cook-Rutnik dressed as a character from one of her favorite Eric Carle tales and joined in the giveaway.
Photographer Yelena Rogers and her dog stopped for a quick photo as they left Mongoose Junction and headed toward the next round of fun. As dusk settled, families made their way to the Trunk-or-Treat event.
At the gravel lot, adults transformed the trunks of their cars into creative, spooky displays. Among the standout setups was one by Jennifer Costanzo and Tessa Chilson from the group Moms Who Trunk.
"Those who arrived at Mongoose before 5 p.m. received a gift of free books from the Little Free Library."
Families on St. John enjoyed a lively Halloween evening filled with candy, costumes, and community spirit from Mongoose Junction to the Trunk-or-Treat celebration.
