Release of Gaza Hostages
After over two years in captivity, 20 hostages abducted during Hamas's October 7, 2023, attacks are expected to be released.
In the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel, 251 people were abducted and taken into Gaza. Under the first phase of the ceasefire deal, the remaining hostages are set to return to Israel.
Israeli officials believe that of the 48 remaining Israeli and foreign hostages, 20 are still alive. In exchange for their release, Israel will free around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
