Soon after, Dominik Pavlik added a second goal at even strength. The Warriors returned to the power play with over five minutes remaining in the period but couldn't convert. Captain Lynden Lakovic then scored at even strength to bring the score to 3–0. The first period ended with the Warriors killing a penalty after a cross-checking call on Steven Steranka.
At the start of the second period, the Warriors successfully defended through the remainder of Steranka’s penalty. Shortly after the four-minute mark, Connor Schmidt received a kneeing penalty, placing the Warriors on another penalty kill. The Hitmen capitalized on their second man-advantage to score their first goal of the game.
