Anthony Hopkins has written an emotional message to his estranged daughter, Abigail Hopkins, in his new memoir, We Did OK, Kid. The legendary actor opens up about the distance between them and the regrets he still carries.
"I will always be sorry for hurting her when I left the family, even as I believe to this day that I had no choice."
The Silence of the Lambs and Remains of the Day star reflects on years of separation from his only daughter and expresses a desire for reconciliation.
"I hope my daughter knows that my door is always open to her. I want her to be well and happy."
Hopkins recalls cherished early memories of Abigail, describing the moment when she laughed in her crib during her first year and the heartbreak of leaving shortly after.
"Until the day I die, I will never forget the sight of her in that crib, laughing up at me when I walked in the room the first year of her life, sleeping soundly the night I left."
Anthony Hopkins shared that he had Abigail with his first wife, Petronella Barker, during their marriage from 1966 to 1972. After their separation, he lost contact with both Barker and Abigail for several years.
"Aside from sending financial support, I didn't have contact with Petronella and Abigail for a few years."
In his memoir, Hopkins reveals his enduring regret and longing for connection with his daughter, opening his heart in an honest and emotional reflection on family and forgiveness.
