Flags Raised in Doha as Leaders Gather for UN Social Development Summit

In the calm of a Sunday morning sky, the flags of the United Nations and the State of Qatar rose side by side in Doha, marking the beginning of the Second World Summit for Social Development. The event symbolized the official handover of the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) to the United Nations as the summit venue where global leaders aim to renew their commitment to social progress.

The ceremony, brief yet meaningful, took place at the expansive convention complex in the presence of senior Qatari and UN officials. Members of Qatar’s Lekhwiya police and UN security personnel stood in formation at either side of the twin flagpoles.

Voices of Cooperation and Hope

“This moment formally marks the handover of this landmark facility to the United Nations,” said Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs. “The QNCC is now transformed into a space where the global community will gather to advance solutions and renew hope.”

Ahmad Hassen Al-Hamadi, Secretary General of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the international delegates, affirming Qatar’s commitment as host and partner in fostering dialogue and collaboration at the highest level.

Summary

The flag-raising at the QNCC in Doha symbolized the start of a global meeting dedicated to strengthening cooperation and reviving the international social development agenda.
