Prince Harry recently shared his thoughts on whether he intends to pursue U.S. citizenship, and his response took many by surprise. It has already been five years since he and Meghan Markle relocated to the United States after stepping down from royal duties.
Since their move, the couple has settled into their Montecito, California residence, developed media projects through Archewell Productions, and enjoyed life with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. By all accounts, their new life in America seems to be going well.
During an appearance on the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast, Harry faced a question about his citizenship during the “Royal Rapid Fire” segment.
“There are no plans to be, at this point,” Prince Harry said.
Born in London as a member of the British royal family, Harry still holds his British citizenship. The unexpected part of his comment lies in how content he appears to remain without formal U.S. status, even after half a decade of living in California.
Despite not planning to apply for citizenship soon, Harry has fully embraced life in Los Angeles. Recently, he and Meghan were seen at Dodger Stadium on October 28, rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they played the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the 2025 World Series.
After five years in California, Prince Harry enjoys American life but isn’t planning to seek U.S. citizenship anytime soon, preferring to maintain his British identity for now.
