Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic congresswoman from Texas, revealed in an interview last week that she is seriously considering a Senate bid. Speaking with Dasha Burns on Politico’s The Conversation, Crockett emphasized her data-driven approach to the decision.
“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data. So I’m a data-driven person. I will tell you that I personally believe that Texas needs to do something different if they wanted different results. That’s just the bottom line.”
No Democrat has won a Texas Senate seat since 1988, and the incumbent, John Cornyn, is seeking reelection next year to serve a fifth term. Crockett acknowledged the tough challenge ahead.
“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn.”
According to Crockett, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is heavily investing in Cornyn’s primary campaign to ensure his victory, though The National News Desk has not confirmed these claims, and the NRSC did not respond to inquiries about their spending before publication.
Jasmine Crockett is earnestly weighing a Senate run in Texas but recognizes the significant challenge posed by the entrenched incumbent and Republican support.
