During a press conference in the Oval Office on Thursday, a man suddenly collapsed behind President Donald Trump while he announced an agreement with drugmakers to expand coverage and reduce the cost of the popular weight-loss drugs Zepbound and Wegovy.
Officials quickly assisted the man, and members of the press were escorted out of the room. The collapse occurred as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz supported the man’s head while he was lowered to the ground. The reason for the incident remains unknown.
“During the Most Favored Nations Oval Office Announcement, a representative with one of the companies fainted. The White House Medical Unit quickly jumped into action, and the gentleman is okay. The Press Conference will resume shortly.”
This statement was issued by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who further confirmed that the man was a guest of one of the participating health care firms, Eli Lilly or Novo Nordisk.
About an hour later, President Trump resumed the event, noting that the gentleman had felt lightheaded but was now fine. The individual did not return to the Oval Office.
