Brian Hirtle expressed strong disapproval of Acadie-Annapolis MP Chris d’Entremont’s decision to join the Liberal Party, calling it “self-serving.” Hirtle, a Viewmount resident, had been closely involved in d’Entremont’s political career, assisting in all three of his federal election victories and serving as president of the electoral district association before retiring six months ago.
Recalling the news, Hirtle said,
“I woke up from a nap and the phone lit up everywhere. It was all over the news that he was considering it. I was as shocked as anybody.”
He described the floor-crossing as a betrayal to the community that worked hard to elect d’Entremont,
“It’s a slap in the face to the residents. It takes a village to get an MP elected. It takes a community of hard-working folks from Argyle to Long Point Road. It’s a team effort.”
Hirtle emphasized pride in holding that single seat in Nova Scotia for the Conservatives, saying, “d’Entremont gave it away.” Despite their previous friendship and working relationship, Hirtle is uncertain how future interactions will unfold.
He also noted the disappointment felt by young voters who supported d’Entremont for the first time in the April election,
“He feels very betrayed.”
Brian Hirtle views Chris d’Entremont’s switch to the Liberal Party as a betrayal to the dedicated community and supporters who helped secure his electoral victories.
