The Daily Wire host Ben Shapiro sharply criticized Tucker Carlson on Monday for his recent interview with far-right activist Nick Fuentes, claiming Carlson gave legitimacy to extremist views that should remain outside mainstream conservatism.
Shapiro’s comments intensified the internal MAGA debate about whether the movement should tolerate or defend racism, sexism, and antisemitism. Both commentators have large online audiences that often rival legacy media figures.
Shapiro described Carlson as an "intellectual coward" and a "dishonest interlocutor."
He argued that Carlson “acts as an ideological launderer,” referring to the friendly tone of the Fuentes interview. According to Shapiro, Carlson “takes other people's hideous ideas, treats them with love and care, and then gives them a massive signal boost.”
Despite his criticism, Shapiro said he has no interest in “canceling” either Carlson or Fuentes. The dispute marks another public clash between two major conservative media personalities. Fuentes and a representative for Carlson did not reply to media requests for comment.
Shapiro and Carlson had previously feuded over the war in Israel, during which Carlson accused Shapiro of caring more about foreign conflicts than domestic issues in the United States.
Shapiro’s remarks underscore a growing ideological fracture in conservative media over extremism and the direction of the MAGA movement.
