Second MLA, Angela Pitt, facing recall petition: Elections Alberta | CBC News

Second Alberta MLA Faces Recall Petition

A second member of the Alberta legislature is now subject to a citizen-driven recall petition. United Conservative Party MLA Angela Pitt, who has represented Airdrie-East since 2015, is the focus of this new campaign.

Recall Campaign Details

Chief electoral officer Gordon McClure informed a legislature committee on Monday that the recall effort against Angela Pitt has been officially approved. Collection of signatures for the petition will begin on Wednesday.

Background and Motivations

Angela Pitt currently serves as the deputy speaker of the Alberta legislature. The recall petition was launched by Airdrie resident Derek Keenan.

"I don’t want to see Pitt replaced as the MLA for Airdrie-East by someone in the NDP. Rather, it’s because Pitt has become less responsive to community issues and concerns, and I don’t think people are being listened to."

In response, Pitt stated:

"I take my role seriously and recalls shouldn't be approved just because people disagree with government policy."

Summary

The recall petition against Angela Pitt challenges her responsiveness to her constituency, reflecting tensions within Alberta's political landscape.
